Description
Hand painted oil reproduction of famous painting Portrait of Dona Isabel de Porcel by Francisco Goya. The painting was created around 1805 and depicts Isabel Porcel second wife to Antonio Porcel Goya’s friend. Today the painting has been carefully recreated detail-by-detail color-by-color to near perfection. Francisco Jose de Goya y Lucientes (1746 – 1828) was a Spanish romantic painter and printmaker regarded both as the last of the Old Masters and the first of the moderns. Near the end of his life he became reclusive and produced frightening and obscure paintings of insanity madness and fantasy while the style of the Black Paintings prefigures the expressionist movement. Through his works he was both a commentator on and chronicler of his era. The subversive imaginative element in his art as well as his bold handling of paint provided a model for the work of artists of later generations notably Manet Picasso and Francis Bacon.
