Description
Paul Gauguin’s color palette in this 1891 image is strikingly similar to that of his 1888 work Fisherman and Bathers on the Aven. It would become his signature style after his journey to Tahiti in 1891 where he sought to escape the trappings of modern European civilization. Having spent some of his childhood in Peru he had long yearned for the simple and paradisiacal lifestyle of tribal cultures. Even as he eventually fell ill and died from his journeys in the southern seas Gauguin adored the joyful atmosphere the islands. Works like these laid the foundation for Primitivism and other post-impressionist pursuits of ‘naive’ artistry. Why not bring the bright energy of this master’s tropical paintings into your home with one of our handmade oil-on-canvas reproductions? Frame Description: Brimfield Weathered Black Frame
